A Turkish drop is an amazing move that used to be a show stopper. For
quite a while, I watched wide eyed when I saw performers like Rachel Brice
drop from a deep back bend, rolling over their toes ballet style, and landing
on their knees - still in back bend position. It's a beautiful move - but from
what I hear, also dangerous. From toe sprains to knee and back injuries,
belly dancers are racking up the medical bills! We want to be known in the
bright lights, not in the ER!

My take on this is that, although it's your choice to do this move, I would
recommend consulting your doctor first.  This move can have consequences
that would put you out of performance for a long time. And the world needs
to see you dancing!
Our dance isn't just the dance of the show off - we don't
have to prove to anyone that we're divas - we just are!
When you dance, show everyone your own signature
moves and personal style. Your individual beauty,
emotion, and light should show in your performance -
that's what moves crowds. Pamper your body - it's the
only one you get this time around. Find show stopping
moves that have to do with intense muscular control and
strength, like specialty shimmies or fusion elements that
really move you.  Don't worry about copy catting the
signature moves of other famous performers. They don't
become famous by copying others, but by learning from
them and putting it all together in their own gorgeous
style.

You are adding to the world of belly dance every time
you perform - make sure it's really you that's showing
through!
